St Trinian's

Right now I am watching a film called St. Trinian's (2007) and it has a ton of Austen connections.
Talulah Riley (Mary from 2005 P&P) plays the main character, Annabelle Fritton.
Colin Firth plays Geoffrey Thwaites who is the minister of Education.
Anna Chancellor (Miss Bingley from 95 P&P) plays Miss Bagstock, the headmistress of a rival school.
Gemma Arterton (Elizabeth Bennet from Lost in Austen) plays Kelly, the head girl.
the list goes on but the best part of the movie so far is when the head mistress' dog, Mr. Darcy comes up and starts humping Colin Firth's leg and Rupert Everett who plays in drag the headmistress, Camilla Fritton says "I think Mr. Darcy likes you."

Then there is a wet shirt scene when Colin comes walking out after having been pitched from a top floor window into a pond.
Very funny moment.
So far it is a hilarious movie.

--I have seen that as well and mostly for Colin too I found it a very strange film to understand might have something to do with me being older. I remember the people you mentioned and was embarrassed for Rupert and Colin having to take on this film. Both have done better roles and so have the others. I really did try to like it but afraid in the end I couldn't. But one of the things I would have wished for Rupert is that he were in an Austen and not just Oscar Wilde. Russell Brand were in this and I was thinking to myself how good he would have been as Mr.Elton. I would have put Rupert as Lord Osborne as a second choice back in the day but Richard Armitage still is in first place.
I did a wish list for Jane Austen adaptations still in the archives I sent a link to BBC and Film Council maybe (just wishing) they will read it.
I am glad you liked the film though at least I know someone who did like it as I felt bad that I didn't.

You are totally right.
Both Everett and Firth have done better films, and I felt very uncomfortable for them at the end. Yet I was still laughing all the way thought mostly at how ridiculous it was but it is certainly a dark comedy and not for everyone.

As for Russel Brand as Mr. Elton... I have never heard such a brilliant idea!! He would be so funny I would die laughing. It would have to be a modern adaptation because I could never see him in a period drama but he would be brilliant.
I might put Everett as Sir John Middleton or someone like him.

I think this film harks back to many Austen adaptations in almost mockery, but I still found it to be humorous. I can totally see how it is not for everyone but if anyone likes a lil dark comedy or sheer insanity then this film might be for you!
